A personalized plan
Non-Surgical Orthopedic Care Consultation
Every successful treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis and a personalized plan.
A comprehensive evaluation
During your comprehensive orthopedic consultation, your physician will thoroughly evaluate your joint complaint, review your medical history, perform a focused musculoskeletal examination, and assess your symptoms, mobility, and functional limitations. When appropriate, additional diagnostic testing or imaging may be recommended.
Your treatment plan
Based on these findings, your physician will formulate a clinical diagnosis and develop an individualized treatment plan. Recommendations may include lifestyle modifications, therapeutic exercises, physical therapy, medications, or non-surgical orthopedic procedures, including joint injections.

Your procedure may be performed during the same visit or may require a separate appointment, depending on your clinical needs and the treatment plan developed together with your physician.

Cortisone Injections
Targeted Relief for Pain and Inflammation

Cortisone injections deliver a corticosteroid along with a numbing medication directly into an affected joint or surrounding tissue to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. They may be recommended for selected inflammatory or degenerative musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis, bursitis, tendon sheath inflammation, and certain other painful conditions.
Benefits
- Reduces inflammation: Helps calm localized inflammatory activity.
- Relieves pain: May provide relief lasting weeks to months, although duration varies.
- Improves joint mobility: Reducing pain can make movement and daily activities easier.
- Supports rehabilitation: May improve tolerance of physical therapy and exercise.
- Minimally invasive: Usually performed in the office with limited downtime.
- May delay additional interventions: Can provide symptom control without immediate surgical treatment in selected patients.
Considerations and Potential Risks
Cortisone injections are generally well tolerated when appropriately performed, but they are not suitable for every condition.
Potential considerations include temporary discomfort or bruising at the injection site, a short-lived increase in pain after injection, temporary blood glucose elevation, skin discoloration or localized fat loss, and rare infection. Repeated injections may contribute to cartilage damage or tendon weakening, depending on the injection site, medication, and frequency.
Important: Cortisone injections help manage symptoms but do not reverse underlying cartilage degeneration or cure osteoarthritis. Your physician will determine the appropriate medication, injection site, and treatment frequency.
Treatment options
Hyaluronic Acid (Viscosupplementation) Injections
Supporting Joint Lubrication and Mobility
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in synovial fluid, where it contributes to joint lubrication and shock absorption.
Viscosupplementation involves injecting a hyaluronic acid preparation into a joint, most commonly the knee, with the goal of improving lubrication and potentially reducing osteoarthritis-related pain.
Unlike cortisone injections, which primarily target inflammation, hyaluronic acid injections are intended to supplement the joint's lubricating properties.
Potential Benefits
- Improves joint lubrication: Supplements the joint's natural synovial fluid.
- May reduce knee osteoarthritis pain: Some patients experience improvement in symptoms.
- May support mobility: Pain reduction can make walking and everyday activities more comfortable.
- Non-surgical option: May be considered for selected patients seeking alternatives to surgery.
- Potential longer-lasting symptom relief: When effective, benefits may develop gradually over several weeks and last several months.
Considerations and Potential Risks
Hyaluronic acid injections do not work for everyone, and clinical evidence regarding their effectiveness is mixed. Major professional guidelines generally do not recommend their routine use for knee osteoarthritis because average benefits are small or inconsistent.
Possible side effects include temporary pain, swelling, warmth, or stiffness at the injection site. Less commonly, patients may experience a significant inflammatory reaction or infection.
Hyaluronic acid injections are primarily used for knee osteoarthritis. Evidence supporting their use in other joints is limited, and coverage varies by insurance plan.
Important: Viscosupplementation does not regenerate cartilage or reverse osteoarthritis. Your physician will discuss whether this treatment is appropriate based on your diagnosis, clinical history, and previous treatments.
Precision treatment
Ultrasound-Guided Joint Injections
Precision Treatment for Improved Accuracy
Ultrasound-guided injections allow your physician to visualize the joint and surrounding structures in real time, helping guide accurate placement of the injection.
Ultrasound guidance can be particularly valuable for deeper joints, such as the hip, or when anatomical precision is important.
Benefits may include improved injection accuracy, visualization of surrounding tendons and other soft tissues, and reduced risk of inadvertently placing medication outside the intended target. Ultrasound does not eliminate procedural risks or guarantee better symptom relief in every case.
