Meet Dr. Laura Petrescu
Dr. Petrescu brings experience in internal medicine, lifestyle medicine, and menopause care to conversations about your health. Her approach connects symptom management with your broader health priorities.
From the concerns that brought you in to the questions you have not yet asked, your visit is a chance to talk openly and decide on practical next steps together.
A menopause care plan for your everyday life
No two experiences are identical. We assess your concerns rather than assuming every symptom is caused by menopause.
Hot flashes & night sweats
Talk through symptom frequency, triggers, and the effect on your day or night. We discuss hormonal and nonhormonal options when treatment is appropriate.
Sleep, mood & concentration
Review disrupted sleep, mood changes, or difficulty concentrating. Your physician considers other possible causes and whether additional evaluation or mental health support would help.
Vaginal, urinary & sexual comfort
Discuss dryness, discomfort during sex, changes in desire, or urinary concerns in a private, respectful setting. Treatment and referrals are tailored to the cause and your preferences.
Nutrition, strength & weight concerns
Build practical routines around eating, movement, strength, and recovery. When weight changes need more attention, we connect your menopause care with individualized medical weight management.
Bone & cardiovascular health
Review relevant risk factors and appropriate screening as part of your broader preventive care. Recommendations reflect your history and clinical needs.
Skin, hair & other changes
Bring concerns about dryness, hair thinning, or other changes to your visit. We evaluate possible causes, discuss sensible care, and coordinate dermatology or other specialist support when needed.
Hormonal and nonhormonal treatment choices
Your care plan may include menopause hormone therapy, nonhormonal medication, local treatment for vaginal symptoms, and lifestyle support. The right approach depends on your symptoms, health history, preferences, and the benefits and risks of each option.
Hormone therapy can help appropriate patients with bothersome menopause symptoms, but it is not suitable for everyone. Your physician explains the treatment type, route, and follow-up, along with alternatives. A consultation does not automatically lead to a prescription.
If you prefer to avoid hormones or cannot use them, there are other options to discuss. Learn more about our individualized approach to hormone therapy.
What to expect from your menopause consultation
01 / Tell your story
We review your symptoms, cycle changes, health history, medications, and the issues that affect you most. Bring your questions and any relevant records.
02 / Understand your options
Your physician considers whether tests or further evaluation would help, then explains appropriate treatment choices and expected costs.
03 / Build your care plan
Agree on priorities, practical steps, and any treatment or referrals. Your plan reflects your needs rather than a fixed package of tests or products.
04 / Review your progress
Follow-up gives you space to discuss symptom changes, side effects, and new concerns. We adjust your plan as needed.
Menopause care questions, membership & costs
What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?
Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause, when cycle patterns and symptoms may change. Natural menopause is generally confirmed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period when there is no other cause. Your physician interprets your history in context, including medications, surgery, and other conditions.
Can I get help before my periods stop?
Yes. You can seek evaluation during perimenopause if symptoms are affecting your life. You do not need to wait until periods have stopped to discuss sleep problems, hot flashes, cycle changes, or other concerns.
Do I need hormone testing to diagnose menopause?
Not every patient needs hormone blood tests. Your history and symptoms often provide important information, and testing is selected when it can clarify a diagnosis or investigate another cause. We explain the purpose of any recommended test.
Do I have to use hormone therapy?
No. Your preferences matter. We discuss hormonal and nonhormonal treatments, local therapies, and supportive lifestyle changes when appropriate. Together, you and your physician choose an approach that fits your circumstances.
Are compounded bioidentical hormones better?
Not automatically. Bioidentical does not mean risk-free or more effective. FDA-approved hormone treatments and custom-compounded preparations differ. Your physician can explain the evidence, benefits, risks, and reasons for selecting a particular treatment.
Can menopause care help with weight changes?
We can evaluate weight concerns alongside nutrition, activity, sleep, medications, and metabolic health. Hormone therapy is not a general weight loss treatment. If needed, we discuss a separate medical weight management plan.
What if I have bleeding after menopause?
Contact a clinician promptly about vaginal bleeding after menopause, even if it is light or happens only once. It needs evaluation rather than being assumed to be a normal hormonal change. If bleeding is heavy or accompanied by fainting or severe symptoms, seek urgent medical attention.
What does menopause care cost, and is it covered by insurance?
Our practice operates through a membership-based direct primary care model. Ask which menopause consultations and follow-up services are included in your agreement and whether additional fees apply. Medications, tests, imaging, and specialist services may have separate charges. Insurance benefits vary, and membership is not health insurance.
How does concierge access work?
Membership supports continuity and direct communication with your care team. Appointment availability, response arrangements, and included services follow the current membership agreement. Review these details with us during your meet and greet.
