Screening with purpose.

Cancer Prevention & Screenings in Rochester, NY
Cancer screening decisions should reflect your age, personal and family history, prior results, and preferences. A clear plan helps you understand what is due, why it matters, and what happens next.
Our Pittsford primary care team reviews relevant risk factors and recommended screening options, then helps coordinate testing and follow-up with appropriate providers.
We also discuss practical risk-reduction steps as part of your broader health care. No screening program or lifestyle plan can guarantee that cancer will be prevented or detected.

A thoughtful cancer prevention plan
Recommended screening review
Discuss appropriate breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, or prostate screening according to your individual circumstances and current guidance. Not every screening applies to every patient.
Personal & family history
Review cancer history in you and your relatives, prior abnormal results, and other relevant risks. Genetic counseling may be appropriate for some families.
Risk-reduction conversations
Discuss tobacco avoidance, alcohol, activity, nutrition, sun protection, and appropriate vaccination as part of a practical preventive care plan.
Coordination & follow-up
Help arrange recommended screening and clarify next steps after results. Abnormal findings may require additional evaluation by the relevant specialist.
What to expect from your visit
Bring your questions, medication list, and relevant records. Your physician reviews your history, symptoms, previous treatment, and the concerns that affect your everyday life.
We discuss whether testing will help, explain treatment options and referrals, and agree on realistic next steps. Follow-up reviews your response and any new concerns. Recommendations are individualized rather than a fixed package of tests or treatments.
We provide screening guidance and prevention within primary care, not oncology treatment. New symptoms need medical evaluation and should not be delayed until a routine screening date.
Cancer Prevention & Screenings questions & membership
Is screening the same as diagnosing a symptom?
No. Screening generally looks for disease in people without symptoms. A new lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent change, or other concern may require diagnostic evaluation instead.
Should I have every available cancer test?
Not necessarily. Screening can cause false alarms, missed findings, overdiagnosis, and unnecessary procedures. Your physician discusses benefits, limitations, and whether a test is appropriate for you.
Do multi-cancer blood tests replace standard screening?
No. Emerging multi-cancer detection tests have important uncertainties about benefits and harms and do not replace recommended screening. A positive result is not a diagnosis and may require further testing; a negative result does not rule out cancer.
Will I need genetic testing?
Testing is not automatic. Your personal and family history can help determine whether genetic counseling or risk-based evaluation is appropriate.
Can this program guarantee cancer prevention?
No. Healthy habits and appropriate screening can be valuable, but they cannot eliminate cancer risk. We focus on informed decisions, evidence-based care, and timely follow-up.
What is included, and how does insurance work?
Review your current membership agreement for included visits, access arrangements, and exclusions. Our practice does not bill insurance for membership-covered primary care. Tests, imaging, medications, and specialist services may have separate charges; coverage depends on your insurer and outside providers. Membership is not health insurance.
Support beyond one appointment
